Intraoccular vision correction When there‘s a high degree of nearsightedness or farsightedness, excessive astigmatism or these vision problems can‘t be corrected using excimer laser surgery we offer intraoccular vision correction. It‘s a safe and effective correction method performed all over the world for over 20 years. Eye clinic Lirema performs these surgeries since 2005.
Intraoccular vision correction is recommended when:
- the degree of nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism is too great and excimer laser surgery can‘t be performed. Which means the degree of nearsightedness exceeds (-) 8 D, farsightedness exceeds (+) 3 D, astigmatism is greater than 3 D.
- when the cornea is too thin laser surgery can‘t be performed even if the degree of nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism is within limits. The thickness of the cornea before the surgery must be at least 500 microns.
During the surgery a special individually chosen vision corrective intraoccular lens is being implanted in the front eye segment. It‘s like having glasses ‘n the eye‘. Intraoccular correction can be offered to patients who are 18 years or older, their refractive defect was stable for at least a year and no other disease which could impact vision was diagnosed. The surgery lasts for about 30 minutes, local anesthetic is applied. Vision reaches optimal levels during a couple of weeks, although during the first days the patient already feels a noticeable improvement in vision. Because intraoccular lens is always custom made preparation for the surgery lasts a couple of weeks. It‘s not recommended having the surgery for both eyes on the same day therefore eyes are being operated with a break of a couple of days in between. For patients who are older than 45-50 years because of weakening accommodation we recommend clear lens replacement surgery.
Vision correction surgeries are not recommended if the patient is diagnosed with systemic, auto-immune, connective tissue, allergical diseases, diabetes mellitus.
