Ortho-K method. For kids who are 10 years or older. Wouldn't it be great if nearsightedness could be corrected when you sleep? Although it‘s hard to believe, but for some people it is possible. Here‘s how it works – when you sleep you wear special contact lenses which slightly affect the surface of the eye so you can see well during the day when you remove the lenses. Orthokeratology – it‘s a safe, non-invasive keratofractional clinical procedure, during which the camber of the cornea is being affected, lessening the degree of nearsightedness and improving vision. The effect of nearsightedness is less noticeable because of specially chosen hard contact lens. These lenses are made from a special material which allows oxygen to pass through. It‘s also made in a special geometrical form. The effect is only temporary and can be achieved using these lenses regularly during your sleep. The result of orthocorrection can be felt only after a couple of hours while wearing the lenses. Maximum vision quality is achieved during the first month. These effects are temporary and they revert completely after a couple of days if you‘re not wearing the lenses. Orthocorrection is offered when the degree of nearsightedness doesn‘t exceed (-) 4,5 D and regular astigmatism is up to (-) 1,5 D. It‘s a great corrective method for children older than 9-10 years when the correction is mandatory but the child‘s shyness or active lifestyle interferes with wearing glasses. Also it‘s great for people who have to see fine, but their lifestyle or working conditions limit the ability to wear glasses, for example athletes, firemen, policemen, etc. Essential part of this corrective method is the choosing and adaptation of the lens for the patient‘s cornea. A special testing set of the lenses is used, topographical examination of the cornea is performed. Then individual lenses are custom made for the patient.
